Reference is the name we give the books that you can't take out. Reference books are usually dictionaries, encyclopedias and directories.

You can visit our Library Research: Starting Strong guide for more in-depth information

For electronic reference collections, a more authoritative online source than Wikipedia, try using our subscription based electronic reference books

To find print editions go to the library home page and enter the title of the book you are looking for into the Find It box. Or you could go to advanced search.

You will then see this screen (see image below). Put in your search terms / keywords and change the location to Reference Collection. (You will also notice that you can change the type to reference book instead.) Since you can't take reference books out it is also good to change the library to indicate where you are.

Now how do you find the actual book? Write down the call number and take a look at the maps below.

The reference collection in Abbotsford is located behind the information desk on the first floor. In Chilliwack the reference collection is to right as you walk in the library entrance. Library maps.
